Be sure to know how to adjust the settings on your iPad to prevent kids from making purchases & how to use it in “airplane mode” to block most ads. * I usually avoid apps that have ads and in-app purchases since they are distracting to patients. And I often combine apps with toys and other traditional therapy materials. I have several faves depending what the specific needs are. What tool do you need for the job? Even within a particular category, I don’t just have one favorite app. * When folks ask for app recommendations, I suggest apps based on what skills you are wanting to teach (no different than when someone asks for recommendations for more traditional therapy materials). The list is not all inclusive and is subject to change as apps are updated, new ones are released & others unfortunately disappear (a sad but true reality in the world of apps). So I decided to spend some time compiling a list for this blog post. I am in several SLP Facebook groups and see numerous posts each week asking “What are the best apps?”. There are thousands of apps in the App Store so it can be difficult to find ones to best meet our needs as SLPs. I only post about apps that I have actually downloaded and tried and only post about those that I see as being either helpful in therapy, classroom or to parents of kids with special needs. I’ve also done several in-depth app reviews on my blog.
